On Veteran’s Day, UP Art Studio gathered at Fire Station #20 (located at 6902 Navigation Blvd. and 69th St) with local representatives to recognize Staff Sergeant Macario Garcia, a pillar of the Latino community. An official unveiling ceremony for the large-scale, photo realistic mural by artist Mez Data, recognized the decorated military member who received the Medal of Honor, the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge by the U.S., and the medal of Mérito Militar in Mexico for his valiant service.
UP Art Studio coordinated the execution of this mural as a proposed gift of artwork to the City of Houston. Once officially accepted as a gift by Houston City Council, the mural will be maintained by the Houston Fire Department as part of the City of Houston’s Civic Art Collection.
